The chief executive of a medical services company in Hasbrouck Heights has been charged in a criminal complaint alleging money laundering, stemming from illegal profit made from an alien smug gling operation.

Anthony Rubino, 43, the chairman, chief executive and president of U.S. MedSys, was charged in a three-page complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney in Newark in federal district court Monday.

The company wasn't charged in the complaint. U.S. MedSys is a medical network developer, provid ing services and technology to the health-care industry. It had revenue of $4.2 million in fiscal 2006, posting a net loss of $3.5 million. The company was incorporated in 2002.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said its board of directors will review and investigate the alle gations, as well as commence a search for an interim chief executive in the event Rubino can no longer remain CEO.

In the criminal complaint, Ru bino is charged with agreeing last September to launder $25,000 in cash from an unidentified individual who was involved in smuggling aliens into the country. In ex change for laundering the money, Rubino, who earns $125,000 from U.S. MedSys, was to have been paid a 7 percent fee, or $1,750, for his actions.

The complaint further alleges Rubino later that month agreed to launder another $50,000 for the unidentified individual and also sought to participate in the alien smuggling business.

Rubino also was charged with providing six letters the next month inviting various people to participate in a medical seminar. The names of those individuals were provided to Rubino by the individual involved in the smuggling operation, according to the complaint.

Rubino couldn't be reached for comment at U.S. MedSys, and other people at the company didn't respond to e-mail requesting comment.
