ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue met under the Chairmanship of Ch. Awar Ali Cheema, MNA, at the Parliament House Monday to review the Anti-Money Laundering Bill, 2006.
The Committee was briefed by Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Omer Ayub Khan regarding the basic parameters of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill. The minister informed the Committee that the first meeting in this regard was held at Malaysia in 1996 with the common interest of different countries.
He added the bill would be supported to stop the money laundering in the country and internationally. The Committee considered the bill Clause-by-Clause and directed the Ministry of Finance to review some of its clauses. The meeting decided that next meeting in this regard would be held shortly to discuss the remaining portion of the aforesaid bill for its finalization.
MNAs Malik Saifullah Tiwana, Sardar Tufail, Haroon I Piracha, Abbas Rizvi, Naveed Qamar and Iqbal Memon attended the meeting. Representatives of the concerned departments were also present.
