Laura Cobbins pleaded guilty to engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity of money laundering and theft with agreed restitution of $12,546.
Laura Cobbins and others engaged in a scheme over several years to defraud CMHA by providing false and or misleading information to CMHA. Section 8 landlords cannot rent to relatives and the general scheme entailed having Section 8 landlord status and renting to a relative; then selling the ownership to another relative; and then renting to another relative. In addition, Cobbins, used a fake identity, applied for and secured financing for $90,000 in the form of a HUD/FHA loan and then defaulted on the loan.
Laura Cobbins' sentencing is scheduled 9:45 a.m. in front of Judge Nancy Fuerst.
