Sergio Maldonado sentenced to nine years for drug and money laundering

Sergio Maldonado of McKinney has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison in a drug and money laundering case after being accused of being a Gulf cartel leader.

In 2008 Maldonado plead guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

A federal judge sentenced him and also ordered him to forfeit $1.2 million that prosecutors say was linked to drug smuggling.
