Arrest in money-laundering case

WFAA- Millions of dollars worth of bogus loans — first outlined in a News 8 investigation last fall — are now linked to a high profile arrest.

San Antonio businessman Andrew Parker was arrested today on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering, tax evasion and filing false tax returns.

Parker lives large in a $3.5 million San Antonio mansion. But a federal indictment alleges he got much of his fortune by making loans that got funneled to family members and himself — loans that were guaranteed by the taxpayer-funded Export-Import Bank in Washington.

News 8 traced one loan for $4.7 million that went through a non-existent forwarding company. The same transaction is outlined in one count of the indictment. The FBI and IRS are still working on the case.

WFAA-TV won a Peabody Award for its Export-Import Bank stories.
