AMLoSPHERE- A TAXI boss caught with nearly £400,000 in a suitcase was jailed for three years yesterday for laundering drug money.

Police stopped Peter Smith's 4x4 in 2006 and found £389,035 in used notes in the case and another £10,010 in a bag. Smith told officers he got the cash from selling his share in a taxi firm.

A jury at the High Court in Glasgow found that the money came from drug trafficking.

Smith, 39, of Old Castle Road, Castlemilk, Glasgow, was snared by a police crackdown on drug dealers and money launderers.

The operation also netted gangster Jamie "The Iceman" Stevenson, who got 12 years and nine months last year for laundering nearly £1million of drug money. His stepson Gerard Carbin got five and a half years.
